I study how the brain learns and encodes patterns, from individual synapses to neural circuits. My work combines electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and behaviour analysis with computation. A large part of that work happens at the systems level: designing acquisition hardwares, building analysis pipelines, and developing software tools that other researchers use. I am drawn to problems where understanding the biology actually changes what you build.
